What we believe

We believe that God made the world and all the people in it, that humans were created separately and distinctly from animals because God wanted to enjoy a relationship with them. The things that we all do wrong, from the first humans to the present day, (the Bible calls sin), have spoiled God’s creation and brought about a separation between us and God.

God sent His son Jesus Christ into the world to restore the broken relationship. He became a fully human being, whilst remaining fully God, was born to a virgin, and lived a sinless life. During His time on earth, Jesus gave radical life-changing teaching and performed many miracles. He was crucified on a cross, taking the punishment for our wrongdoing. After 3 days, Jesus rose physically from the dead, He returned to heaven and is now reigning with His Father. He will eventually return to earth to judge the world according to each person’s response to God, and He will be recognised as the rightful ruler of heaven and earth.

Jesus is the only way by which people can have a restored relationship with God – only His death deals with the problem of our wrongdoing, and it’s only His resurrection that guarantees us eternal life. God’s undeserved favour to us makes this possible.

Baptism by immersion is for those who follow Jesus, and is a visible sign of what has already taken place in a Christian’s life.

God’s Spirit lives in all who have turned away from their sin and invited Jesus into their lives. It is God’s desire that all Christians be filled with the Holy Spirit so we can be empowered to live the kind of lives we have been re-created to be. The same Holy Spirit wants to equip every believer with special gifts so we can do the works of Jesus, and we expect to see the character of Jesus growing in all Christians.

Jesus is the Head of the Church, which is not a building or denomination, but comprises all those who follow Him. One local expression of the worldwide Church is KCU. All Christians have direct access to God and do not need any other mediator than Jesus.

The members of KCU are pleased to belong to this local expression of the worldwide Church, and are linked in relationship with a group of similar churches called ‘Relational Mission’, and affiliated to an international family of churches called ‘Newfrontiers’. Together, with leadership, we serve God’s purposes, demonstrating His love and care for one another, and reaching out to those who do not know Him. We seek to have good relationships with other local Christian churches, working with them whenever possible.

Jesus has given us, His church, the privilege of taking His good news to every part of the world, to teach and bring His truth, promises, love and power into everyday situations. The Bible is God’s gift to us, so we can discover who He is, what He is like and how He wants us to live. We aim to base all we say and do, on it.
